A local place to turn

Aberconwy Domestic Abuse Service combines a refuge with support in the community. Its Heulwen base in Llandudno Junction offers a place for adults affected by abuse to seek practical and emotional help. Community support includes women and men; refuge accommodation is for women and their children. S102

Daily visits from professional staff bring practical and emotional support into the refuge. Alongside that accommodation, the charity’s one-stop shop gives people a way to seek help without needing to move into refuge. S102, S001

Space to make sense of things

Free adult counselling sits alongside Own My Life, a 12-week educational course designed to help women regain a sense of ownership after an abusive relationship. The charity also lists book and craft groups, creating opportunities for connection as well as more structured support. S102

Children’s experiences count

Children can receive outreach support in the community and counselling at school or at the centre. The ten-week S.T.A.R. programme, Safety, Trust and Respect, explores feelings about domestic abuse and aims to help children understand that the abuse is not their fault. S102

More than an emergency response

The strength of this approach is the connection between immediate safety and support over time. A refuge, a conversation with a counsellor and a group where someone feels understood each have a different role. Keeping those routes together makes room for the different needs of adults and children. S102, S001

The detail behind the work

The annual figures cover the whole charity for the year ended 31 March 2025. Its filed accounts separate charitable activities from raising funds and explain how shared costs are allocated. These are historical organisational figures, rather than a budget for this fund. S001
