Different ways to be heard
YCT Support offers free therapeutic support to children and young adults across Essex, Hertfordshire and North London. Its work takes place in community and education settings, bringing specialist support into the places where young people grow up. S101
The choice of approach matters. Alongside talking therapies, YCT offers art and play therapy, adapting support to the child or young person rather than expecting everyone to express themselves in the same way. S102
Room to explore, through play
For children aged 5-11, play therapy uses familiar play materials to explore feelings that can be difficult to describe. Sessions follow the child’s lead, with up to 20 offered according to individual needs. This gives younger children their own route into therapeutic support. S103
Supporting the people around a child
YCT’s Circle of Security Parenting programme helps parents and carers consider their child’s emotional needs and relationships. It runs over six live online sessions and is free for families registered with a GP in Harlow, Uttlesford or Epping Forest. Its reach is specific to that West Essex pathway. S104
A choice of ways forward
A child should not have to be a confident talker to be heard. The value of YCT’s approach is the range of ways it makes expression possible, with room for younger children and support for the adults caring for them. S102, S104
